Helen Halsey Smith, 98,of
80 State Street,passed away Friday evening (May 16, 2008) at St. James Hospital.
Born in Hornell, January 18, 1910, the daughter of Benjamin and Lora Mae McIntyre Halsey, she had resided in Hornellall her life. She was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of1928, and had been employed by the former First National Bank in Hornell aswell as Steuben Trust Company. She wasemployed as an office clerk for the New York State Department of Transportationin Hornell from 1957 until her retirement in 1975. She was the oldest living member of theUnited Presbyterian Church of Hornell, and a life member of Ivanhoe Chapter#160, Order of Eastern Star.
She was predeceased by her parents, her twin sister, HildredDeuell, her husband Robert Joe Smith in 1986,her sons, Robert H. Smith in1997 and Ronald E. Smith in 2005, hergrand daughter, Cindy Smith Meyer, as well as her best friend, Estelle Evans.
She is survived by her daughter, Sally Anne Wilcox ofHornell, her son Richard S. (Margaret) Smith of Arkport, her daughter-in-law,Lois Smith of Arkport, 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, as well asseveral nieces and nephews including Anne Waldorf of Tonawanda.

The family will be presentto receive friends at the Robertson Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornellon Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.Funeral services will be held onTuesday at 11:00 AM at the Davidson Memorial Chapel of the UnitedPresbyterian Church of Hornell. Rev. David Kilgore will officiate.Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
