Greta A. Karr, 85, formerly of Howard, passed away Sunday (July 24, 2016) in Bakersfield, California where she had resided since 1973.
Born in Canaseraga, November 13, 1930, the daughter of Walter and Bessie Sleggs Shay, she had resided in Howard most of her life until she moved to California. She was a graduate of Canaseraga Central School, and had attended the Rochester Business School. She was employed at the Liliquest Studio's in Bath and while in California, was a teacher's assistant at the Highland High School in Bakersfield for several years.
She was predeceased by her parents, her daughter Elaine Karr in 1973, her husband, Francis L. Karr in 1988, as well as her sisters;Trudy Woken and Jeanne Flint, and her brother; Howard Shay.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Mike) Waufle of California, three sons, Larry (Sally) Karr of Coopers Plains, Lynn (Loreen) Karr of Howard and Mark Karr of California, her sister, Carolyn Forsythe of California and her brother, William (Henrietta) Shay of Albion. Nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren , several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell on Saturday October 29, 2016( please note the date) from 1 PM until 3 PM when Funeral services will be held with . Rev. Beverly Karr-Lyon officiating. Burial was in Howard Cemetery.
