Glenn J. Leathersich,96, of
78 Greenwood Street,passed away peacefully on Friday (June 23, 2006) St. James Hospitalfollowing a brief illness.
Born in Caladonia, June 15, 1910, the son of Lomond andElsie Sinclair Leathersich, he earned hisBachelor's and Master's Degrees in Business Education at Syracuse University. He also took course work at Harvard, UCLA , the Universityof California at Berkeley, and Ohio State.He earned a letter in football at Syracuse University. Glenn taught and coached athletics at Oneonta Senior High School and taught at AlfredState College where he was chairman of the Secretarial Department. He was a member of the NewYork State Business Teachers Association, and a member of its Board ofDirectors. In early years, Glenn wasactive in the 4-H organization, and in 1924, was a member of the NYS 4-H DairyJudging Team, which competed in the National Dairy Show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was a member of the Grange and tookdegrees to the National Level. He wasawarded a plaque for 20 years of service in the Boy Scouts of America as ScoutMaster and Institutional Representative.He served as Almond Town Historian, was past president of the AlmondHistorical Society, and an active member of the Canisteo HistoricalSociety. He enjoyed the hobbies of photography, rock polishing,painting, woodworking, antique toolcollecting and marble and knife collecting.He gave many programs on these subjects to local organizations. After his retirement from teaching in 1973,he became well known in the area as an antique dealer. He was a member of the United PresbyterianChurch of Hornell, and served as an elder.He served in the US Navy during WW-II;retiring with the rank of Lieutenant , Senior Grade. He was acommunications officer on the flag ship of Commander of Service Squadron Ten, supplyheadquarters for the 3rd and 5th fleets in the Pacific. Before his discharge, he was assistantpersonnel officer at Sampson Naval Base, on the faculty of the Naval R.O.T.C. at Ohio State University and officer-in-charge of theclosing of the Navy V-12 Unit at Case Institute of Applied Science at ClevelandOhio.
In 1937, he married theformer Frances Church in Tunkhannock,PA., who predeceased him on Dec. 25, 1997.
Surviving are 3 sons, Peter (Linda) Leathersich and Carl(Janice) Leathersich both of Canisteo, and John (Suzanne) Leathersich of Middleton, Wisconsin,one daughter, Ann (Ruben) Lugo ofOrlando, Florida, 11 Grandchildren, 7 Great grandchildren.

The family will be present to receive friends on Friday (June 30, 2006) from 6 PM until 9 PM at the RobertsonFuneral Home at their new location,
354 Canisteo Street,Hornell.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 1 PM at the Hornell United Presbyterian Churchwith Rev. David Kilgore officiating.Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville, NY.
