Glenn Thomas Herdman, 76, died at home August 31, 2025 with his wife and daughter present after an 8 year journey with cancer. He was born in Cuba, NY to Joseph and Phyllis Herdman. As an adult he learned to not answer Cuba when asked his birthplace during international travel. He was valedictorian, class of 1967, of Angelica school, and was a graduate of Clarkson College.
On May 27, 1995 he married Sherry Simpson 25 years after their initial meeting. He is survived by his wife, daughter Talia Ann Herdman (Justin L. Barnes), and his granddaughter Flora Herdman-Barnes. He is also survived by sister Sue Sanborn (Dana) of Bradenton, Florida and brother Joe Herdman (Elaine), his Aunt Carol Gallman, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, sister in law Sharmaine Moody (Rob) of Alameda California, cousins, and many friends. He was loved and will be mourned by his “brother” Luigi Llibre and his extended family in the Dominican Republic. He was predeceased by his parents, mother in law Doris Longway, as well as his grandparents.
Glenn will be remembered as a devoted family man, a hard worker, an entrepreneur, a kind and adventurous man with a wonderful sense of humor. He loved starting projects and getting them up and running then moving on to the next project. His various jobs included construction work, bartending, running a saw mill, managing the Cuba incinerator and eventually helping choose incinerator sites internationally, washing dishes at a hotel in Oslo, Norway for a summer, making doors for a Saudi military installation, plant engineer for Friendship Dairies, as well as his largest project—designing and building the Hyland Landfill in Angelica. After the landfill project he developed East Wind Landscape Nursery in Belvidere to make life easier when he needed plants for his many gardens. His last project was to develop a chocolate company, Del Oro Chocolate Factory in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Throughout his life he found joy in his ability to mentor others so they grew beyond their perceived boundaries.
