Georgia E. "Peg" Baker, 87, of Grove St., passed away Monday (January 31, 2011) at St. James Hospital.
Born in Willing NY, December 16, 1923, the daughter of Bryon and Reba (Butler) Freeman; she was a graduate of the Wellsville High School and a member of the concert band. She attended Buffalo State College and worked at Bell Aircraft and Worthington Pump and Machine during WWII.
Georgia married Oswald Baker on January 18, 1947 and moved to Arkport where she was a life long resident. Peg reported local news for the Tribune for a number of years and also worked as the Hornellsville Town Clerk. She also was a tax collector, District Treasurer and Senior Account Clerk for the Arkport Central School District retiring in 1984. She served on the Arkport Cemetery Board, and belonged to the Wise Wife's Home Bureau. Peg also served as Den Mother for the Cub Scouts Pack 16, officer of the PTA, President of the Steuben County Town Clerks Assoc., President of the WBCCI Airstream Unit, member of the Southern Tier Trailmates, member of the Arkport Legion Auxiliary as well as the Ivanhoe Chapter #160, Order of the Eastern Star.
Peg enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; she was an avid reader, pet owner and bird watcher. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach. She and her husband traveled extensively and spent winters in Florida.
She was predeceased by her husband Oz in 1999, and son Douglas in 2008.
She is survived by a son, Randall Baker of Arkport, four grandchildren, Rachel (Rick) Thomas of Raiford, NC, Kyle (Casey) Baker of Dale City VA. Kristen and Megan Clancy of Haskinville, one great granddaughter, Jocelyn Thomas of NC, one daughter-in-law, Kay Baker of Haskinville.

The family will be present for a Time of Remembrance on Friday (February 4, 2011) at 10:30AM at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell, NY 14843. Burial will be in Arkport Cemetery.
