George M. Jones Sr., 96, of County Route 30, passed away Tuesday (November 6, 2012) at McAuley Manor.



Born in the Town Of Canisteo, March 21, 1916, the son of Isaac and Mina (Halsey) Jones, he had resided his entire life on the Swale. Living at that high altitude gave him a unique perspective on life. His sense of humor, gentleness, deviltry and wisdom created a wonderful life for his wife and family.



He had many talents and enjoyed hunting, farming, gardening and travel. He was able to follow his children as they moved around the world. His most recent occupation was as an operating engineer on various road jobs. His favorite toy was a D-9 bulldozer or maybe one of his tractors.



He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter; Brandy Moran, sister and brother-in-law; Luella and Paul Remchuck, his brother and Sisters-in-law; Lloyd and Dorothy Hults, Roger Hults and Dorceil Moran.



He is survived by his wife of 70 years Helen (Hults) Jones and five children; Carl Jones and George (Mary Krisher) Jones Jr. both of Swale, three daughters; Sally (George Brundu) McKee of Hornell, Susan (Rick) Marsh of Horseheads and Karen (Bill) Moran of Orange Park Fl., 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild as well as one sister-in-law; Martha Hults, several nieces and nephews.

Honoring George's wishes there will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service on Saturday (Nov. 10, 2012) at 12Pm at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.



In lieu of flowers friends wishing may make memorial contributions to the Canisteo Volunteer Fire dept. 35 Main St. Canisteo, NY 14823.
