Gary W. VanAllen, 66, of 7683 Miller Hill Road, passed away Monday (May 7, 2012) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.



Born in North Hornell, June 22, 1945, he was the son of Theo Crane VanAllen Jones and step son of John Jones. He had resided in Hornell all his life and was a graduate of Hornell High School. Gary served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1965 - 1968. He was then employed as a computer data process manager for the former SKF Industries in Hornell. He then was self employed in Hornell. He was a former member of the Hornell American Legion Post, the Data Processing Management Association, Elmira Chapter and the former Spencer United Methodist Church.



He was predeceased by his mother, Theo Jones, his step-father, John Jones and a special aunt, Lucille Crane.



He is survived by his wife, Chari Robertson VanAllen of Hornell, his son, Kevin (Kara Smith) VanAllen of Avon, his sister-in-law, Carla Kelly and brother-in-law, Gary Kelly of Nashville, Tennessee, his 3 granddaughters, Tessa, Molly and Elyse VanAllen of Avon.

The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday from 4 PM until 7 PM at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Following calling house family and friends are invited to attend a gathering at Kevin VanAllen's home, 2706 Nations Road, Avon, NY 14414. A private family memorial will be observed at a later date.



Friends may make memorial contributions to: Highland Foundation, % Highland Hospital, 1000 South Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620. Contribution envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
