Gary Lee
Plank
Aug 15, 1968 — Jul 5, 2026
Gary L. Plank, 57, of Alfred Station passed away peacefully on Sunday July 5, 2026, at
Strong Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Gary was a son, a brother, an uncle, a
cousin, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a friend. He loved to laugh and to make
people smile. He was quick to mention a funny saying to lighten someone's mood or to
just not take life too seriously. That is something many people loved about him. His love
language was quality time. He looked forward to spending time with people. Especially
towards the end of his life, he cherished the time spent when people came to visit him.
He loved deeply and relationships meant everything. Gary had a heart for animals,
especially cats. All his pets brought him joy and he often talked about them.
Gary was born on August 15, 1968, in Hornell, New York to Thomas Plank and Nancy
(Burnes) Plank. Gary played baseball for many years beginning in Little League. Gary
graduated from Hornell High School in 1987. Post high school, Gary held several
management positions in various locations throughout his working years. His last job
was driving for a few Amish families. Gary found this immensely fulfilling work and
developed very meaningful friendships with those he worked for. He did not consider
these families his employers, they were family to him. He spoke very fondly of Jonas.
Gary enjoyed life-long friendships with fellow classmates Ken Howard, Ryan Prentice &
Demario Ridgeway. They even formed a small rock band. Gary played guitar and was
especially focused on playing drums. Gary enjoyed camping in the summers and fishing
with his family. He loved his heavy metal music, and he was a diehard Kansas City
Chiefs fan.
Gary was predeceased by his father Thomas Plank (November 6, 2002), his niece
Aleah Hartzell (July 16, 2005), his brother Steve Plank (May 25, 2019) and his
stepfather James Phillips (December 24, 2022). He is survived by his wife of 28 years
Crissandra "Crissy" (Ames) Plank of Alfred Station, his mother Nancy Phillips of Hornell,
NY, his mother-in-law Janice Briggs of Alfred Station, his son Dustin A. Boncaro
(Alyssa) of Rochester, NY, his daughters Leeann Ames of Alfred Station, NY, CheyAnn
Liedtke (Levi) of New Hampshire, his brother Don Plank (Ronni) of Leicester, NY, his
sister Terri Hartzell of Renton, WA. His three grandbabies were his entire world: Audrie
love & Aiden Boncaro of Rochester, NY and Wynter Keeney of Colorado. He had many
nieces and nephews that he greatly loved and cared for:
Amy Plank of Hornell, NY, Danielle Newsholme (Robert) of St. Augustine, Florida, Nick
Plank (Felicia) of Hornell, NY, Janelle Shutts (Tyler) of Bluffton, SC, Adison Plank of
Leicester, NY, Danna Berlad (Jon) of Buffalo, NY, Kaycie Plank of Hornell, NY, Jake
Plank (Rachel) of Hornell NY, Josh Plank of Hornell, NY, Nathan Hartzell of Renton, WA,
and Kaylin Hartzell of Renton, WA. Gary had great nieces and nephews as well as
several aunts, uncles and cousins.
