Freida G. Downing, 97, formerly of 3rd St., passed away Tuesday (November 24, 2015) at the Hornell Gardens.
Born in Belmont, February 18, 1918, the daughter of Donald F. and Louann Davis Spratt, she was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1936. She moved to Buffalo in 1941 and returned to Canisteo in 1980. She attended the Canisteo Wesleyan Church.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Ernie in 2008, and her sister Norma Jackson.
She is survived by her son Robert (Lisa) Downing of Painted Post, 4 grandchildren Keith Stout, Christopher Stout, Tracey Lee Oakley and Caitlin Griffin, several great grandchildren, nephew Randy (Marsha) Jackson and niece Mindy (David) VanKeuren both of Hornell.

The family will be present to receive friends on Friday (Nov. 27), from 11AM until 2PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo. Funeral services will be at the conclusion of calling hours at 2PM, Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.
In lieu of flowers friends may make memorial contributions to the Hornell High School Alumni Assoc. PO Box 135 Hornell NY.
