Francis W. "Push" Prunoske Sr. 87, of
24 Taylor Street,passed away Thursday (July 19, 2007) at his home.
Born in Hornell, December 3, 1919, the sonof Walter and Anna MosgrovePrunoske, he had resided in Hornell all his life. Hewas a graduate of St. Ann'sSchool and the Hornell High School. Fran was employed by the Erie Railroad untilhis enlistment in the US Army in 1942 . He was a member of the 753rd Railway & Shop Batallion, and served in North Africa, Italy ,and the Phillipines until his discharge in1946. Upon his return fromthe service to his country, he returned to the Erie Railroad for a short periodof time before becoming a fireman for the City of Hornell. His career spanned over 34 years and during this time, he fought some of Hornell's largestfires. He obtained the rank of Captainwhich he held for 26 years until his retirement in 1981. Fran coached teams in the Hornell LittleLeague for 14 years and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Hornell Babe Ruth League, which he wasinstrumental in creating. He was activein officiating High School Football and baseball. He was a member of the Genesee ValleyFootball Officials and the Steuben Chapter of the New York State High SchoolBaseball Officials. His other interestsincluded hunting, fishing and following his grand children through theiracademic and athletic pursuits. Fran wasinducted into the Hornell Little League Hall of Fame in 1983. He will also be remembered for the love of hisfaithful dogs; Sparky, Beano, Candy and Pepper. Fran was a member of Our Ladyof The Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and St. Ann's Church inHornell.
In April of 1942 he married his loving wife, the formerMarjorie Kneale and together, celebrated 65 years ofmarriage.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Hornell, 3 sons,Francis (Chari), Philip (Barb) and Joe (Julie) Prunoske all of Hornell, 8 grandchildren, Pamela, Philip(Tricia), John (Sarah), Kristen (Stephen) and Mark (Darcy), Jennifer, Brian andJolynn as well as 8 great grandchildren, his sister, Mary (Laverne) Kelly andnumerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

354 CanisteoSt, Hornell.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Ignatius LoyolaChurch on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St Ann's Cemetery.
