FlorenceA. Smith, 86, of
84 Maple Street,passed away Thursday (January 1, 2009) at herhome.
Born in North Bingham, PA., February 24, 1922, the daughter of Vern and LauraCaulkins Clark,she had resided in Canisteo since1934. She was a member of Our Lady ofthe Valley Parish and communicant of theformer St. Joachims Church in Canisteo. She was the last surviving charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of theGreenwood American Legion, and a member of the Wise Old Owls Camping Club. Florence was employed inthe physical therapy department at St. James Mercy Hospital for several yearsprior to her retirement in 1975.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Smith on August 8, 2001, 8 brothers,3 sisters and her son-in-law, Ronald Johnson of Canisteo.
She is survived by 5 daughters, Margaret Johnson ofCanisteo, Betty (Roland) Newell of Melbourne, Florida, Katherine Ferguson ofElma, Carolyn (John) Criss of Corning, and Bonita"Bonnie" (Thomas) Welch of Almond, her son John Smith of Bridge City, Texas, 17grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.

The family will be presentto receive friends at the Brown& Powers Funeral Home,
6Spruce St., Canisteo on Monday from 3 PM until 7 PM at which time a funeral services will be held with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery,Canisteo.
