Florence Mae Austin, 84 of Canisteo passed over on Monday (November 19, 2012) at McAuley Manor in the arms of her daughter and best friend Laura.
Born on Sept. 6, 1928 in Hornell, the daughter of Henry and Sarah Alice (Best) Rice, she was a graduate of Hornell High School where she played violin in the orchestra. Florence married Gerald Hyslop and had three children. She later married Glenn Wesley Austin. They didn't have many years together, but they were precious and happy ones. Florence loved animals, was an avid reader and liked to put together large puzzles as well as being a pro at crosswords. She loved to crochet and over the years made hundreds of gifts that are cherished today. She looked forward to being with her family for any occasion; the holidays will never be the same. Florence was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She missed her friends from the Canisteo Manor and she will be sadly missed, but those of us that loved her will always have her in our hearts.
Predeceased by her parents as well her husband Glenn Austin, her loving son, Michael Andrew Hyslop.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Hyslop of TN and Laura (Thomas) Olix of Hornell, three step children, Suanne Austin, Nancy Austin and Michael Austin, Several Grandsons, Thomas L. Olix, Michael A. Olix, Thomas J. Crook, David Crook, Jason Crook, Joseph Crook and Timothy Hyslop, many great grandchildren.

Honoring Florence's request there will be no formal funeral proceedings, stating "The ones who knew me and loved me, were there when it counted most; when I was here to enjoy it". Gift to Grandma: You are loved so dearly, the love is strong and true, with the end there is a new beginning, yes you may not be here to hug or kiss, it is these memories that we all will miss. No matter where you are, be it close or very far, the love you gave to us from you is now a shining star, when I look up in the sky tonight, I will see you smiling far!
