Eugene J. Ormsby age 82, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026 at Advent Health in Sebring, Florida.
He was born in Hornell on September 5, 1943 the son of Harold Ormsby and Viola Northrup Ormsby Alfred Station. He married Marguerite (Renie) Waters Ormsby, who predeceased him on July 18, 2011 after 48 years of marriage. He graduated from Greenwood Central School and farmed for 20 years at Ro-Est Farm in Greenwood, then moved to Wellsville and worked for Cooks Tire and U Haul and retired from NYSCC in Alfred.
Eugene also did small engine repair work, was an Outdoor furnace dealer for Mahoney furnaces, avid sportsman, avid Pomona Grange member for many years, hosting Pomona grange at local and State fairs. He enjoyed reading books, playing cards/dominos, loved crocheting, watching College softball games and most of all taking scenic tours around the county side.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Marguerite (Renie), his brother and sister-in-law George (Sally) Ormsby, and brothers Michael, Donald and Robert Ormsby and Granddaughter Savannah Rawleigh,
He is survived by his daughter Brenda (Andrew Morse) Thurston of Hornell, his son Bradley Ormsby of Frostproof Florida, sisters-in-law Carol and Emily Ormsby, his god children Rosalie Cline, Susanne, Shawn O'Dell and Stacey Wing. His grandchildren Breannah (Cory) Perkins, Zackery (Bailey) Thurston, Nathan Thurston, and great grandchildren Alexa, Piper Perkins, and Peyton Rawleigh, along with several nieces, and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends and family on Saturday (May 2, 2026) at Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell from 12-1pm, with a Funeral Service at 1:00pm with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
