Eugene L. Briggs, 78, of 6077 Crosby Creek Road, passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him on Saturday (October 3, 2015) at his home.
Born in Franklinville, January 18, 1937, the son of Lawrence and Wilma (Crites) Briggs, he was a lifelong area resident, and a graduate of Alfred Almond Central School "Class of 1954". He was retired from the Town of Hornellsville Road Crew, and had worked various other jobs including Dairy Farming, Mechanical and Construction. Gene enjoyed square dancing, tinkering in his garage from the stuff that many people would have thrown out. He was a very generous man, fixing many things not only for family, but neighbors, and or anybody who needed it. Gene loved his family, gave a lifetime of advice, and will be greatly missed.
He was predeceased by his parents and his 2 sons Jeffery Briggs, and Robert Briggs.
He is survived by his wife Janice Wheaton Briggs whom he married in 1985, 4 sons Richard Briggs of Friendship, Jerald Briggs of Hornell, Scott Briggs of Hartsville, Andrew (Diana) Ames of Hornell, his daughter Crissandra (Gary) Plank of Hornell, his brother Earl (Virginia) Briggs of Dallastown,PA, 24 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
The family will be present 1-3pm Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell, where Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, with the Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating.
