Ethel B. Sanford, 80, of 14 Tenth Street, Canisteo, passed away Wednesday (March 31, 2010) at McAuley Manor.



Born in the Town Of Canisteo, January 8, 1930, the daughter of Lowell and Mabel Covel Butler, she had resided in Canisteo all her life. She had been employed at the former Westinghouse Plant in Bath for 10 years and as a nurses aide at both St. James Mercy Hospital and the Hornell Gardens. After their retirement, Ethel and Pete enjoyed spending time at their cottage at Lake Lamoka. Ethel enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Canisteo American Legion Post, # 846.



The family would like to thank the staff and nurses on Whipperville Lane, at McAuley Manor for the wonderful care Ethel was given. A special thanks to Bob and Barb Hammond for their weekly visits.



She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, James "Pete" Sanford in 2009, her sister, Ella O'Dell, her brothers, Charles, Glen and Newell Butler, and her grandson, David Richardson.



She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Tom) Richardson of Canisteo, her sons, Robert and Alan of Canisteo, her sisters, Ida Hults of Hornell, Mary Campbell of Cameron, Blanch (Glen) Campbell of Greenwood, and Shirley (Butch) Ross of Port Jervis, her brother, Duane Butler of Adrian, Grandchildren, Brent(Nicole) Richardson of Canisteo, Adam (Jennifer) Sanford of Alabama, Lindsey (Todd) Bialecki of Almond, Lauren Sanford of Hornell, Great Grandchildren, Kennedy & Tyler Richardson and Grace Sanford, several nieces & nephews.



The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday from 11 AM until 1 PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home 6 Spruce Street, Canisteo, where funeral services will follow calling hours at 1 PM, Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Canisteo.
