Esther L Freeland,74, of
800 State Route 21, Thacherville, passed away unexpectedly Friday (September 22, 2006) at St. James Hospital.
Born in Belmont, September 9, 1932, the daughter of Williamand Clara Sprague Lewis, she had resided in Thacherville thepast 44 years. She was a 25 year memberof the Ladies Auxiliary of the Canisteo American Legion Post, a Life Member ofthe Ladies Auxiliary of the Hornell VFW, and the Moose Club,and a past memberof the Eagles Club. She had been employed as a waitress for several yearsat the Sunset Restaurant, the formerStubby's Restaurant and for 2 years owned and operated with her husband, theformer Wheel- In Restaurant in Almond. Esther was a loving and caring wife,mother and grandmother, enjoyed spending time with her family, and travelingacross country with her husband.
She was predeceased byher 2 sons- Michael and Timothy Freeland,1 sister, Burdena Case, and her 5 brothers, Edward, Claude, Clyde, William and Richard Lewis.

She is survived by herhusband, Clifton Freeland whom she married on June 15, 1950, 2 daughters, Linda Lockwood of Almond, andAnnette Freeland of Almond, 2 sons, Dale (Lura) Freelandof Canisteo and Jeffery (Connie)Freeland of Almond, 2 sisters, Marguerite Day of Florida and Lottie Davis of Tenn., 13 grandchildren, Troy (Tracy)Freeland, Mark (Tracey) Freeland, Patrick (Kate) Freeland, Barbara Freeland,Eric Cushman, Jessica (Tom) Dobell, Michelle (Shawn) Allen, Josh (Misty Bleu)Lockwood, Stewart Sanford, Angela Zabroski, Alicia(Joe) Miller, Michael Freeland, Nichole Freeland, and Jennifer Freeland, 26Great Grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
The family will be present 2-4& 7-9 PM Sundayand Monday to receive friends at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home,
354 CanisteoSt., Hornellwhere funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM, Rev. Ken Chroniger officiating.Burial will be in Howard Cemetery.
