Ernest W. Downing, 93, of
26 3rd St., passed away Sunday (November 23, 2008) at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester.
Born in Hornell, February 24, 1915, the sonof Lloyd and Celia Wilkins Downing, hewas a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of1935. He had resided in Hornell until 1941, when he moved to Buffalo.While there, he was employed for Hewitt-Robbins for 33 years. He moved to Canisteo in 1980. He attended the Canisteo Wesleyan Church,was a member of the Amherst Lodge # 981 F& AM in Buffalo, and was inducted into the HornellHigh School Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.
He is survived by his wife, FreidaSpratt Downing, his son, Robert (Lisa) Downing of St. Catherines,Ontario, 2 daughters, Sandra Stout of Texasand Marsha Collins of Buffalo,4 grandchildren, Keith Stout, Christopher Stout, Tracey Lee Oakley and CaitlinDowning, 6 great grandchildren.

The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4 &6-8 PM Wednesday at the Brown &Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo where funeral services will be heldon Friday at 1:00pm, Rev. Donald Maynardofficiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.
