Elsie R Wehling, 92, of
16 West Avenue,died Saturday (November 11,2006) at her home.
Born November22, 1913 in New Albion, NYthe daughter of Katie and Louie Reed. She resided in Cattaraugus, NYbefore moving to Arkport in 1950.
She was a graduate of Little Valley High School, RandolphTraining Class and SUNY Geneseo, majoring inelementary education. She taught 3 years in the area rural school, and later atBryant Elementary in Hornell, retiring in 1980.
In 1934 she married Ernest F Wehling,who died in 1994, after 60 years of marriage.
She is survived by 4 children, Carolyn (Rodney) Baker ofDansville, Linda (Tom) Matkovic of Rockville, MD,James (Jo) Wehling of Bedford, PA, and Anita (Brian)Kelly of Pittsford, NY, nine grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, two sistersFrieda Fitzpatrick of Houston,TX, and Mary Neal of Lake Wales,FL. An infant daughter 2 sisters, and 3 brothers preceded her in death.
Elsie was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Cohocton, also a member of the Arkport American Legion Auxillary , Steuben Salon #286 Eight and Forty, The ArkportSenior Citizens, and the Hornell Fortnightly Club. She was a literaryvolunteer, and a Girl Scout Leader for many years in Arkport.
Calling hours for Elsie will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Robertson Funeral Home354 Canisteo St. Hornell. A Funeral Service will be Wednesday at 11:00 am at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church 97 MapleSt., Cohocton. Burial will be at the Liberty Park Cemeteryin Cattaraugus, NY.
