Elsie Mae Lantz, 95 passed away Friday (December 4, 2009) at the Hornell Gardens.



Born in Galeton, PA, January 22, 1914, the daughter of Lemmel and Rose Blue Prouty, she had resided in Hornell most of her adult life.



She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Ludwig Lantz Jr, her children, Lucy and Billy Lantz, son-in-law, Earle Houghtaling, sister-in-law, Sophie Lantz, brother-in-law, William Lantz, her grandson, Earle W. Houghtaling Jr., and her great grandson Earle W. Houghtaling III., her brothers, Bert and Charles, and her sisters, Pheobe and Gertrude.



She is survived by her daughters, Elsie (Larry Nye) Houghtaling of Hornell, Mary (John) Brown of Almond, Ruth (James) Whitmore of Hornell, 4 sons, Ludwig "Junior" Lantz , LeRoy (Mary) Lantz , Jacob (Mary) Lantz , and David (Cheryl) Lantz all of Hornell; her sister, Ruth Halsey of Arizona, sister-in-law, Lucy Lantz of Hornell, 18 grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren as well as her "Special Family" at the Hornell Gardens.



Elsie was an avid gardener and displayed a great zeal for living. She was the "Neighborhood Grandma" to many children over the years. She will be most remembered for her bright blue eyes, her great smile, and most of all, the love she showed for her friends and family. Her favorite saying was " I Love You".

The family will be present to receive friends from 6 PM - 8 PM Sunday and from 11 AM until 1 PM Monday at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell where funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
