Elmer H. Winfield, 84, formerly of Arkport, passed awaySunday (March 15, 2009)in Ridgeland, Mississippi.
Born in Hallstead,PA., May 7, 1924, the son of Elmer H. and FrancesSarzynski Winfield, he had resided hisearly life in Pennsylvania,moving to Arkport about 1962. He hasresided in Mississippi since 2007. He had been employed as a train dispatcherfor the Erie Lakawanna Railroad and Conrail prior to his retirement. Elmer served his country as a member of theUnited States Army from 1943-1946. Anavid golfer, he was a member of the Twin Hickory Golf Club, the HornellAssociation, the Arkport American Legion and Hornellsville Lodge #44F&AM.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Dorothea in1989, his sister, Marian Reid, and his nephew Charles Reid Jr.
He is survived by 2 daughters- Pamela (Roger) Edel ofClarence, and Candyce (James) Hunt of Mississippi, 3 grandchildren, Stacy(Brent) Walker, Stephanie Edel and Mallory Edel and one great granddaughter, CaymanWalker, 1 niece, 2 great nieces and 1 great nephew.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday from2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Robertson Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell wherefuneral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM, Rev. Brian Diffenbacherofficiating. Burial with militaryhonors will follow in Arkport Cemetery.
