Elizabeth "Betty"Amanda, Spicer, Stephens, Williams,a big name for a baby born prematurely in Hornell on January 16, 1914, weighing only 3 ? lbs.,passed away peacefully on Monday (January 15, 2007) at the age of 93, at the home of her daughter, NellaWilliams of 7960 Ricks Road, Town of Fremont.Betty was born the only daughter of William B. and Nellie EllsworthVanDuesen. She attended the former Washington Elementary School and graduated from the Hornell Senior High School, in the class of1932. She later attended Alfred University for 2 years.She enjoyed studying the English language and found joy in imparting it to her3 children. She was married to her first husband, Mervin Spicer in 1937, hersecond husband, D.L. Stephens from 1951 until his death in 1963, and in 1967she married Bruce Williams who predeceased her in 2005. Betty resided inHornell most of her life, but for a short time in Knoxville, PA.,and MiamiFlorida. During her marriage to D.L. Stephens, sheenjoyed many happy years on the farm on the
Big Creek Road.
She was a member of the former Home Bureau, the HornellLodge of Women of the Moose, the Big Creek Methodist Church,and the Big Creek Grange, as well as the First Baptist Church in Hornell. She was also a member of the AlmondHistorical Society, and had attended the "
Gathering Place".
She was predeceased by her very good friend, Jennie Wells.
She is survived by one daughter: Nella (Charles) . Williamsof Hornell, with whom she had made her home the past 3 years, two sons: William (Louise) Spicer of Hornell, Leon (Lorraine) Spicer of Garner, NC, 5 step-sons, Mark,Duncan, Jim, Craig and Geoff Williams, one step-daughter, Carrie Berman of AZ.,Special friends Millie Trivisondoli, Joanne Wells and Susan Lynn., 16grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren as well asseveral step grand and great grand children.
The family will be presentto receive friends on Wednesdayfrom 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Bender-Brown& Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell where funeral serviceswill be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM.Betty's son-in-law, Charles Williams will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Fremont Cemetery, Stephens Mills,
