Eleanor L. Wakefield, loving wife, mother and grandmother, 81, of 24 South Street, peacefully reunited with her husband Edward Wakefield on Sunday (August 18, 2013) at Cuba Memorial Hospital, after a long illness.
Born in Cuba, September 28, 1931, the daughter of Lou and Lena (Clark) Bixby, she graduated from Portville Central School. Eleanor's working career began at Acme Electric in Cuba, and later retired from the former Angelica Central School as a Kindergarten teacher's aide. She was a member of the Angelica United Methodist Church, where she participated in many different activities, was also a member of the former Angelica Grange, currently the Cuba Grange, and also the Crafty Belles. Eleanor enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, flowers, but most of all her family. She also loved to dance with her husband Ed, the love of her life, recalling one of their favorite places to dance was at Breezy Point.
She was predeceased by her husband Edward C. Wakefield, whom she married January 30, 1953, and predeceased her on February 2, 2010, her parents, 3 brothers Arnold, Kenneth and Leonard Bixby, and 2 sisters Doris Bixby, and Pauline Merrick and, her son in law Robert Appleby .
She is survived by her daughter Linda (John Cotton) Appleby of Cuba, her son Alan Wakefield of Angelica, her 2 grandsons Aaron (Shannon) Appleby of Cuba, and Todd (Jessica Schweikert) of Rushford, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be present 2-4 & 7-9PM Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 101 West Avenue, Angelica, where Funeral services will be held on Thursday, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Tim Middleton officiating. Burial will be in Until the Day Dawn Cemetery.
