E. Alice Stephens, 94, formerly of 8th Street, passed away Thursday (October 10, 2013) at the Hornell Gardens following a long illness.



Born in the Town Of Ward, October 25, 1918, the daughter of Fay and Sarah Stearns Ferrin, she had resided in Birdsall for over 60 years prior to moving to Canisteo in 2001. She was a graduate of the Angelica High School, Class of 1938, and for several years, served as the election inspector for Birdsall.



She was predeceased by her husband, Warren Stephens in 1992, her son, Larry Stephens in 1994, as well as her great grandson, Matthew Stephens and seven sisters; Helen, Eva, Jessie and Ethel Ferrin, Ruby Peterson Jennings, Irene George, Ada Johnston and two brothers, Charles and Clarence "Bill" Ferrin.



She is survived by one daughter: Judy (Gerald) Griffith of Hornell, one son: Roderick (Mary) Stephens of Canisteo, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren as well as nieces & nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Monday, October 14, 2013 from 11 AM until 1 PM at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell where funeral services will be held following calling hours at 1:00 PM, Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Until The Day Dawn Cemetery, Angelica.
