Douglas Paul Montgomery, 91, of Almond passed away (Wednesday, January 27, 2010) at McAuley Manor where he had lived since 2005.



He was born in Hornell June 30, 1918 to Paul Edson and Bertha Gates Montgomery. He graduated from Hornell High School, class of 1938, and served in the US Navy during WWII in PT Boat Squadrons. He was active in their veteran's organization for many years, attending their conventions all over the country.In 1942 he married Doris Coleman who survives. They raised their family in Almond, living there for over 60 years.



During his long life he was a member at some time of several local area organizations including the Hornell BPOE, Arkport American Legion, Hornell VFW, Almond Rod & Gun Club, Southern Tier Power Squadron, University Lodge Chapter 944 Masons, the former Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 626 Alfred, and The Almond Union of Churches where he was a 60 year member.

Doug worked as a Machinist for the Erie Railroad in his early years and as an Electrician at Foster Wheeler Corporation in Dansville for 33 years. He loved the great outdoors, fishing, hunting and most of all boating. He had his own cabin cruiser on Seneca Lake for years. He also enjoyed maintaining his home and grounds as long as he was able.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Besides his wife he is survived by 3 children, Sue (Paul) Reukauf of Ovid, NY, Terry (Nancy Risser) Montgomery of Basking Ridge, NJ, and Patricia (Stephen) Crandall of Alfred, NY, his 9 grandchildren, Timothy Reukauf of NYC, Debbie Thomas of Ovid, Titus (Ashley) Reukauf of Shortsville, NY , Lydia (Marc) Arena of Phelps, NY, David Montgomery of Silver Springs, MD, Daniel Montgomery of Philadelphia, PA., Kate (Benjamin) Palmer of Almond, Philip Crandall of Brooklyn, NY, and Aaron Crandall of Pittsburgh, PA. and 10 great grandchildren: Annika (Ryan) Cali, Joshua Thomas, Jordan, Sampson, Solomon, Zephaniah and Zillah Reukauf, Gabriel Arena and Quinn and Nolan Palmer and one brother Russell Montgomery of Zephyrhills, FL., brother-in-law Dale (Erma) Coleman of Whitesville, nieces, nephews ,cousins.

A memorial service will take place at 2PM on February 13, 2010 at the Almond Union of Churches with Rev. Steven Dygert officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Almond.
