Porter age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday (August 11, 2023) at Highland Hospital in Rochester. She was born in Hornell, New York on July 4, 1938 the daughter of Duane House and Geraldine Mahoney House. Dorothy graduated from Canisteo Central School “Class Valedictorian”, and later in life obtaining   her Bachelors degree from SUNY Geneseo in 1988, and her Masters Degree from Alfred University in 1989. She then became a probation officer from 1990 until her retirement in 1999. She was very well respected and loved by all with whom she worked. Dorothy loved to travel and had literally traveled the world. She was most happy being by or on the ocean especially in Gloucester, Massachusetts where she had been doing whale watches for over 40 years. Dorothy was a very optimistic person and when she put her mind to something she could accomplish it. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Bruce L. Porter, and her son Kevin Porter. She is survived by her son David (Karen) Porter of Almond, Stephen Porter of Hornell, Gary (Cyndy Testani) Porter of Hornell, Bruce Porter Jr. of Dansville, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday (August 17, 2023) from 5-7pm at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell, where a funeral will take place at 7:00pm with Pastor K.
