Dorothy M. Carter,102, of
16 Scott Street, passed away Sunday (January 29, 2006) at McAuley Manor.
Born in Hornell,. May 12, 1903, the daughter of GlennW. and Susie Boyce Murdock,she had resided in Hornell all her life. She was active in the Lincoln School P.T.A. ,serving as President in 1956 and 1957.She spent many years as an active member of the Hornell Council ofCampfire Girls. She was instrumental instarting a summer recreational program for the youth for the City of Hornell during the1950's. That program was still inoperation in 1993. She was a RepublicanCounty Committee Woman for many years serving as Treasurer in 1963, as well aspresident in 1965. Mrs. Carter was amember of the former Spencer United Methodist Church and a chartermember of the WSCS (Woman's Society ofChristian Service), and served as secretary for 8 years and President for 5 years from 1964-1969. She was nominated for "Who's Who In UnitedMethodist Women", for the period of 1950-1984.She was also a member of the former
Sally Marquis Circle. She and her late sister, Miss Norma Murdock,were honored in 1980 by the Hornell Area WomensRepublican Club as that organizations "Women of the Year". Mrs Carter and herlate husband, Donald, won the Lincoln DayAward in 1982, and were presented an inscribed silver bowl.
She was predeceased byher husband Donald Carter in 1987, her sister Norma Murdockin 1995 and her son William Carter in2005.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Virginia (Ed) Shields of Ladylake Fla, Norma (Frank) Brooks of CA,and Judith (Eladio) Amoresof Fla., her son Donald (Mary) Carter ofIll., 14 Grandchildren, 24 GreatGrandchildren, 4 Great Great Grandchildren.
The family will be present to receive friends from 11 AM until 1 PM Friday at the BENDER-BROWN & POWERSFUNERAL HOME,
354 Canisteo Street, Hornell wherefuneral services will follow calling hours at 1 PM. Rev. Beth Kottemann willofficiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville.
