Dorothy A. Morey, 94, a resident of Elderwood Nursing Home, formerly of 32 Cottage Avenue, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, at Elderwood Nursing Home in North Hornell, Sunday (January 15, 2017).
Born in Michigan, February 10, 1922, the daughter of Clarence and Pearl (Gray) Bailey, she was a lifelong area resident. Dorothy grew up in Hornell, and was a member of the Our Lady of the Valley Parish, and a communicant of St. Ann's Church. During the years Dorothy had worked at Woolworth's and Dunn's Drugstore. Dorothy was known to several residents of Hornell as a warm and loving wife and mother to her 2 sons Joseph and Thomas and daughter Barbara Getman. Dorothy will now rejoin her husband Joe in heaven.
She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years Joseph N. Morey, her parents, a brother Clifford Bailey, a grandson Thomas Getman, and son in law Darold Getman.
She is survived by 2 sons Joseph A. (Sandra) Morey of Arkport, Thomas W. (Eleanor) Morey, and her daughter Barbara Getman of Hornell. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and several great and great great grandchildren.
The family will be present 4-7pm Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Ann's Church on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 1:30 PM. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fremont.
