Formerly of the Hornell area.



Dorotha P. Alderman, 100, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday (March 17, 2011) at McCall's Hospice House in Simpsonville, South Carolina.



Born in Fremont, December 21, 1910, the daughter of John Mark and Mildred M. Matthews Petteys, she was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Hornell High School Class of 1928. She married Floyd M Alderman on November 27, 1930. Dorotha had taught school in North Jasper, and had also worked for Birds Eye Foods. She was a member of the Haskinville Wesleyan Church, and enjoyed spending time and living with her children throughout the year.



She was predeceased by her husband Floyd M Alderman on March 21, 1976, and was also predeceased by her daughter Jean Pawlind, her son Brian Alderman, a sister Fern Petteys, and 2 brothers Lyle and Scott Petteys.



She is survived by 3 daughters Caroline (Lloyd) Prentice of Scottsville, Patricia (Robert) Krein of Simpsonville SC, Deborah (Phillip) Wilson of Bath, 3 sons Richard (Gerry) Alderman of Houghton, Bruce (Erin) Alderman of Avoca, Gerald (Melodie) Alderman of Arkport, 26 grandchildren 47 great grandchildren 3 foster grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.



The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will be held at the Haskinville Wesleyan Church on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 2:00 PM, with the Rev. Dan Jones officiating. Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery.
