Donald E. VanSkiver, 66, of 29 South Church Street, passed away Monday (Jan. 7, 2013) at home.



Born in Hornell, June 23, 1946, the son of Ernest and Catherine Masters VanSkiver, he had resided in Canaseraga most of his adult life. He was a graduate of Canaseraga Central School and served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Viet Nam Era. He had been employed for 44 years as service manager at Charles F. Oliver & Son in Canaseraga. Donald was a member of the Valley Wesleyan Church, the Canaseraga Volunteer Fire Department, and served as an EMT for many years on the Canaseraga Ambulance. For several years he served as an umpire for the Canaseraga Youth League, as a trustee on the Canaseraga Village Board and enjoyed his membership on his bowling league.



Donald's first love was his family but also enjoyed hunting and geocaching.



He was predeceased by his parents, and 3 sons, Kenneth, David and Joseph VanSkiver.



He is survived by his wife, Mary K. Woodworth VanSkiver to whom he was married in 1968, his children, Jonathan VanSkiver of Arkport, Ashley VanSkiver of Wayland and Mitchell VanSkiver of Virginia, his grandchildren, Brandon, Kelsi, Caleb and Breydan, his siblings, Dean (Jane) VanSkiver of Cameron, Darlene (Charles) Johnson of Dansville, Duane (Mary Jo) VanSkiver of Arkport, Darrell (Sandra) VanSkiver of Canaseraga, Daniel VanSkiver of Arizona, Dale VanSkiver of Mt. Morris and David (Tammy) VanSkiver of Canaseraga as well as several special nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Friday from 2-4 PM. Funeral services will be held at 4 PM Friday following calling hours. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, Friends may make memorial contributions to: Canaseraga Volunteer Ambulance Corp. or to the charity of choice.
