Donald Elbert Murphy Sr., 94, of 22 E. VanScoter St, beloved husband of Irene Murphy passed into eternal life on Jan. 22, 2013. He had been a resident at the Hornell Gardens since 2007.
Born in Susquehanna, PA, January 15, 1919, the son of Elbert and Mable Packer Murphy, he was a graduate of Susquehanna High School and moved to Hornell in 1936, He was employed as a conductor at the former Erie Railroad as well as Conrail prior to his retirement in 1979. Don served his country as a member of the United States Army during WW-2. He was a member of the Hornell United Methodist Church and the Hornell American Legion Post.
He was predeceased by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Irene Hurd Murphy of Hornell, one daughter: Karen E.(Lawrence) Kovach of SC and one son: Donald (Sharon) Murphy Jr. of Dansville, 2 grandchildren Stephanie and Jeffery Murphy and 4 great grandchildren, Peter Jacobs, Geoffery, Megan and Katelyn Murphy.

The family will be present to receive friends on Friday (Jan. 25, 2013) from 11Am until 12Pm, at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell. Funeral services will follow calling hours at 12Pm at the funeral home; Pastor Betty Holden, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.
