Donald L. Karns Sr., 79, of State Rt. 36, passed away Friday (January 8, 2016) at his home.
Born in Hornellsville, January 12, 1936, the son of Hardy and Grace Higgins Karns, he had resided in Arkport all his life. Donald was a graduate of the Arkport Central School class of 1953 and served his country in the United States Army. He owned and operated Karns Backhoe service and was a member of the Arkport American Legion Post 1248 and the South Dansville-Wayland F&AM Lodge 478. Donald formerly attended Hillside Baptist Church in Hornell as well as the Grace Baptist Church in Dansville and loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parent's Donald was predeceased by his siblings, Edgar, Earl, Harold "Jimmy" Karns and Ruby Flanders.
He is survived by his loving wife Joyce Erskine Karns of Arkport, one son, Donald (Julie) Karns Jr. of Hornell, two daughters, Brenda Karns of Oneida and Barbara Karns of St. Augustine FL, grandchildren, Annie (Adam) Guy-Brackman, Ashley (Andy) Fialkowski, Rebecca Guy, Joshua Karns, and Katelynn Karns, great grandchildren, Sarahbeth, Katelynn, and Chance Fialkowski, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 4PM-7PM on Tuesday (January 12, 2016), at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1PM at the funeral home, Rev. Dathan Corbett officiating. Burial will be in Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport.
