A Memorial Service is planned for Donald John Emo of
7609 Airport Road,Hornell, who passed away at McAuley Manor on April 14, 2008.
Donald was born in Wayland, August 7, 1920 to Anna (Kurtz) and William Emo.Having lived in Wayland, Rochester,and Arkport, he resided in Hornell since 1981.
Donald was a graduate of the Wayland Central School district. He was a61 year member of the Grange (Oak Hill and Stephens Mills). Donald enjoyed hischurch family and was a 54 year member of the Arkport Presbyterian Church wherehe had served as trustee and deacon.
On June19, 1948, Donald married Betty J Tompkins, in Corning, his wife of 59 years. Together withBetty, he enjoyed the blessings of a son, 3 daughters, and seven grandchildrenwho survive: Philip (Kuei Wei) Emo of Chicago, Donna Mehlenbacher of Hornell,Christine Emo of Wellsville, Margaret (Stephen) Rose of Boonville, Indiana; hisgrandchildren: Brian Mehlenbacher, Jason (Krishendaye) Emo, Aaron (Kristen)Mehlenbacher, Matthew Emo, William(Colleen) Rose, Anne Rose, and Kevin Rose. He is also survived by one sister,Betty Ann (George) Fox of Hamburg, one brother Walter (Arlene) Emo of Arkport,a sister in law Nettie Emo Stevens and 2 great grandchildren.
Donald was predeceased by a sister Beatrice Emo Last, and 2brothers Wilbur Emo and Paul Emo.
Having been brought up on a farm, Donald always felt closeto the land. He was engaged in dairy farming until 1981. He had also beenemployed by Corbin Wood Products, Stern and Stern Textiles, and SeedwayCorporation. Donald enjoyed a lifetime of music: he was a member of a bandduring his early adulthood, and often entertained his family and friends withaccordion and harmonica. In retirement he continued to enjoy vegetablegardening, woodworking, and spending time with his family.
Calling hours are 7-9pm,Friday (April 25) at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home 354 CanisteoStreet in Hornell. His memorial service is 11:00am Saturday (April 26) at the Arkport PresbyterianChurch, where viewing will be 10-11amwith the Rev. Steven Jewell officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, South Dansville.
