Dolores Z. MacCrea, aged 73, passedaway on Wednesday, December 3rd, at St. James Mercy Hospital after a prolongedillness. Born Dolores Jean Zimmerman on November 11, 1935 in Neenah, Wisconsin,she married William R. "Scotty" MacCrea of Alfred on August 24, 1955, afterwhich the couple made their home in the "big house" at 1664 Waterwells Rd.Alfred Station. Three sons were born to Scotty and "Dee" as manylocals knew her; Rory Donn, Kevin Michael and the youngest child, who livedonly a few hours, Fion Lonn. A daughter (in-law) Debra Buckwalter joined thefamily in January of 1978, giving the proud grandparents five grandsons, FionLonn, recently married Kimberly Ringer, Colin Michael, married to SarahCalimeri, (who have given them a great granddaughter, Taegan and greatgrandson, Ronan), Alexander Robert (engaged to marry Shanley Keenan), Lee Alanand Duncan John.
After being a stay-at-home motherwhile her sons were young, Dolores worked for several local businesses: theAlfred Sports Center, the College Bookstore, the Wheaton Agency Insurance Co.,the University Physical Plant and finally as a court clerk for both the Townand Village Courts.
In 1989, Scotty and Dee moved a fewhundred feet down the road from the "Big House" into a beautifulScottish crofthouse-styled stone house, built by William and many helpfulfamily and friends.
Aside from her great pleasure in hergrand and great grand children (who knew enough never to leave her housewithout a goodbye kiss and always an "I love you" from her), Doloresenjoyed reading, knitting, needlepoint, playing piano, doing crossword puzzlesand staying in touch with family and many, many friends.
In addition to her immediate family,she is survived by three brothers: Roy (Betsy) Zimmerman of Foster, RI, Robert(Roberta) Zimmerman of Almond, Terry (Pamela) Zimmerman of Wellsville, nieceMichele (John) Emo, Danielle (Mark) Haynes, Deirdre Zimmerman, KimberlyZimmerman, and nephews Joe Zimmerman and Tim Zimmerman.
In reality, she is the matriarch ofa much larger family, a "clan" of beloved friends, many of whom knowher as "Nani", the name her first grandchildren gave her nearly 30years ago. She will be remembered as a genuine and faithful friend, a greatlistener, and unforgettable woman.
