Derek P Ward, 28, of
6660 County Rte. 20, passed away July 3, 2004 at the Erie County Medical Center,due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident while on duty for theAllegany County Sheriff's Office.
Born in Rochester, N.Y., May 22, 1976, the son of Daniel andDarlene Brandt Ward, he had resided in thearea all his life. He had graduated from Angelica Central School "Class of 1994", received his Associates Degree inCriminal Justice from Genesee Community College, and laterhis Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Brockport University.Derek was employed by the Allegany County Sheriff's Office, since March of 1997and was promoted to Deputy in March of 2001. While employed at the Sheriff's Office,he had become a Certified Instructor, for Firearms, and Defensive Tactics, andhad received numerous Letters of Commendation. He was also a member of theA.L.E.R.T. (Allegany County Law Enforcement Emergency Response Team). Derek wasa Marine Patrol Officer, and part-time patrolman for the Angelica Police Dept. ,and had previously patroled for the Friendship Police Dept. He was also amember of the Turkey Federation, Angelica Snowdrifters, Angelica Hose Co., theNRA, and the Safari Club. Derek will be remembered for being a loving father,husband , son and a friend to many.
