85 Crosby Street, passed away peacefullyFriday (February 15, 2008)at Elder Care Home.
Born in Hornell,NY, July 7, 1914, a son of Fred L and Josephine L.Myhers Angell, Dee was a life long resident ofHornell.
He was a graduate of Hornell High School,class of 1932 and the 50th class to graduate. He graduated from Alfred Universityin 1936, 100 years after Alfred's founding. Dee received his MA from NYS TeachersCollege in Albanyin 1938.
Dee served as Hornell CityCourt Clerk and substitute teacher and was a member of the Hornell Auxiliary Police,prior to Army service. He served hiscountry during WWII from 1943-1946, as a sergeant with the 75Thinfantry division in the European Theater. His division was involved in the Battle of the Bulge.
Dee retired from SteubenTrust Company as Vice President and Secretary in 1979, after 33 years ofservice. He was a graduate of N.Y.S.Bankers Assn., Schoolof Public Relations at Syracuse University, Steiner Graduate School of Bankingat Rutgers University and N.Y.S. Bankers School of ExecutiveManagement at West Point.
He was a student and teacher of Steuben County ChapterA.I.B. Deeserved as chairman of the former Steuben County Bankers Assn. and president ofSteuben County Chapter A.I.B.
Dee was a 50 year member ofthe former St. Paul'sUnited Church of Christ where he served on the church council for 25 years,where he also served as president and longtime treasurer and choir member. In later years he was an active member of theHornell United Presbyterian Church,
Serving as an elder.
Dee was vice president and campaign chairman of the formerHornell Community Chest, past president of the Hornell YMCA with a continuousmembership of 52 years, Treasurer of the Hornell Civic Committee for YouthRecreation for 21 years, treasurer of the Hornell Chapter of the American FieldService, former member of the board of directors of the Hornell Area Chamber ofCommerce.
He was a 65 year member of Hornellsville Lodge #44 F&AM,serving as trustee and organist. Duringhis membership in the lodge, he was named Mason of the year, and recipient ofthe Dedicated Service Award by the Grand Lodge of the State of N.Y.
Dee played in area dancebands from 1933-1983 including the Andy Grillo Big Band, and the Ray HedgesBand. He was a charter and life memberand president of the former Hornell Musicians Local #416.
Dee was a RSVP volunteer atthe former Bethesda Hospital and St. JamesMercy Health for 23 years.
He was a member of the Hornell American Legion.
Dee liked to travel the U.S. and out ofthe Country especially to his favorite place, Nova Scotia.
Dee will be known for beinga loving family man, and special friend to many.
On April9, 1942 he married Catherine Michler who passed away in 2003.
In addition to his wife, Dee was predeceased by a brotherand sister in law, Lloyd and Florence Angell, a Grandson, Stephen Maxson andGreat grandson Matthew Lovell, a nephew, Michael Angell, a brother and sisterin law Jean and Henry (Hank) Michler,special friends Rev. Arthur and Thelma Sennewald and fellow musician RayHedges.
He is survived by a daughter: Joanne (Robert) Maxson, and ason: Rick (Debi) Angell, both of Hornell,
Four Grandchildren: Kristie(Brian) Babcock of Hornell, Shawn (Sadie) Angell of Georgia, Michelle ( Gary) Lovell of Hornelland Michael Maxson of Rochester.
4 Great grandchildren, Chelsea and BrennaLovell and Hunter and Christian Babcock of Hornell.
2 special nieces, Mary Lee (Doug) Wyantof Canisteo and Patricia (David) Lovvorn of Arkansas,2 special nephews, Charles Michler of Georgiaand Dr. Norman (Carolee) Angell of Albany, andCousins

The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4 & 7-9 PMTuesday, February 26, 2008, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354Canisteo St, Hornell, where Funeral services will be held on Wednesday,February 27, 2008 at 11:00 AM, Rev. David Kilgore and Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Hornell Rural Cemetery.
Hornellsville Lodge #44 F&AM will conduct a Masonicservice Tuesday night at 8:30 PM
