View Tribute Book Dawn Marie Carney Canaseraga/Grove Our dear mother Dawn Marie Carney, 74 of Canaseraga, sadly passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Noyes Memorial Hospital with her family by her side after a short battle with lung cancer.   Dawn was born at Bethesda Community Hospital in North Hornell on July 19, 1949, she was the youngest daughter of Emory and Geraldine (Mehlenbacher) Peters. She was a graduate of Canaseraga Central School. After graduation Dawn attended the Geneva School of Practical Nursing. After receiving her LPN, she became a nurse at Bethesda Community Hospital and later at St. James Mercy Hospital. She also worked with Dr. Ashdown at the Elm Street Family Practice in Hornell. Dawn was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She really enjoyed working in her garden, picking blueberries, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to watch her grandchildren play sports and loved listening to the chorus and band concerts. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband of 52 years, Larry Carney who passed away on February 12, 2023 and her sister Fern Dowd. Surviving are two sons, Mathew (Emilie) Carney, Andrew (Kristin Truax) Carney, her grandchildren Grace, Aubrie, Brenden Carney, her sister, Sandra (Taylor) Fritts, her sisters-in-law Pat (Verge) Champlin, Lenis White, and Melinda (Chris) Carney as well as many nieces, and nephews.  Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 11am-1pm at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Hornell, and Memorial Service to follow at 1:00pm with Jeff Pratt officiating. To send a remembrance please visit www.brownandpowersfuneralhomes.com or on Facebook @Brown & Powers Funeral Homes, the family is being assisted by director Chester A.
