David George Weakland, of Arkport NY, passed away unexpectedly on Friday (September 20, 2024), surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 18th, 1975. David graduated from Canisteo High School and BOCES (Masonry). He perfected his craft in Masonry and had his own business – David Weakland Masonry.
David loved his crafts and hobbies - masonry, hunting, fishing, wrestling, jiu jitsu, gardening, painting, making homemade fishing lures, and brewing homemade wine and beer. He adored eating copious amounts of food, especially when it was made by his wife. She first cooked for him 23 years ago, and the rest is history. He had an alarming sweet tooth. On more than one occasion he shamelessly gobbled entire jars of honey, each time citing the fact that “honey is good for you.” His kids affectionately call him Pooh Bear. He was a skilled painter of wildlife, which was especially impressive considering his massive bear-like hands. He was fiercely protective. He is well known as a National Arm-Wrestling Champion, winner of multiple national competitions. Above all, David loved his family including his wife, children, grandchildren, parents, sister, in-laws and his creator.
Welcoming him into heaven are his grandmothers, Barbara Cornell and Eleanor Weakland. His grandfather, George Weakland Sr. His brother-in-law, John Day. His cousin Collin Weakland.
Surviving is his loving wife, Sasha Rigas; His parents George and Cynthia Weakland; His Mother and Father-in-Law, Nicholas and Dale Rigas; His children MacKenna, Brett, and Kaeden Weakland; His sister Elysia (John) Burch; His sister-in-law Sophia (Jeffery) Bell; His grandchildren Layna Plummer and Luka Plummer; His nieces and nephews Brittney Weakland, Julia (Brennan) DeMersman, Bella Burch, Jenna Burch, Meleena Bell and Easton Bell.
The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday (Sept. 28, 2024) from 1 PM to 4PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St, in Canisteo, where a memorial service will follow from 4 PM – 5PM. The family is being assisted by Chester Gosper, Director.
