David J. McEvoy, 74, of Purdy Creek Road, passed away Monday (July 3, 2017) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Born in Rochester, September 27, 1942, the son of Joseph and Ruth Clements McEvoy, he had resided in Avon during his early life and was a graduate of Avon High School , Class of 1961. He received his AAS Degree in electrical engineering from the former Alfred Ag Tech in 1972. David moved to the Hornell area in 1968 and had resided in Hartsville since 1979. He was employed until his retirement, as a Bio-Medical Engineer, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bath.
David served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1961 - 1965. David was an avid hunter, fisherman, and woodworker, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Eunice Webster, his half sister, Deborah and his daughter - in-law, Sharon McEvoy.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Kline McEvoy of Hartsville, to whom he was married September 3, 1966, his daughter; Lori (Kenneth) Haitz of Naples, two sons; Daniel (Fiance- Barbara Black) McEvoy of Hornell and Ronald McEvoy, one sister; Marjorie (Gerard) Smith of Hornell, a half brother; Joseph McEvoy Jr. of Rochester, two half sisters; Kathy Blackwell and Mary LaMartina , 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
