Obituary

Daniel P. Ward of Friendship, NY passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence on October 22nd. He was 79 years old and was loved and respected by many.

Dan was raised in Burt, NY along with his brother and two sisters. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was also a very good athlete while attending high school in nearby Newfane, NY.

Dan followed his passion for the outdoors as he strove to turn it into a career. He attended college at Syracuse University and earned his degree in Biology through their Science and Forestry Program. Soon after, he joined the United States Army as a Lieutenant. He served overseas in combat during the Vietnam War and very quickly became a highly decorated Officer. He was awarded several distinguished medals for his service.

After returning home, he and his wife Darlene were married and have been ever since. Their family life started with Sons Donald and Derek. Dan chose his professional path and became a Conservation Officer with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. The couple moved to Angelica, NY in 1977 after a brief stint living in Queens. Dan served his community in Allegany County until he earned a full retirement.

They lived in Angelica for well over 25 years before building a new home and relocating to their property outside of the Village of Friendship. He and Darlene have cherished their three beautiful Grandchildren Brianna, Haylea and Mitchell.

There will not be any public services scheduled. At a later date that is to be determined, there will be a Celebration of Life gathering at the Angelica Legion Post 414.

Dan will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
