Daniel Lyon

June 30, 1954 — November 13, 2025

Daniel "Dan" Lyon, affectionately known as "Hound Dog," was born on June 30, 1954, in Cuba, New York, to Daniel and Lillian Lyon, and passed away on November 13, 2025, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. The oldest of seven children, Dan grew up on the family farm on Peavy Road, where his childhood was filled with fishing and swimming in the creek, exploring the clay bank, and riding ponies. These early joys fostered his lifelong love of the outdoors, hands-on projects, and simply being around others.

Dan graduated from Angelica Central School and completed training at BOCES Machine Shop in 1972. He began his career at C&G Wheel Puller before joining Hydromic Inc., where he made hydraulic pullers for Snap-on Tools and crafted countless parts for friends, family, and government projects. He made good friends along the way and was always happy to help anyone who needed a hand. Known for his exceptional craftsmanship, generosity, and quiet reliability, Dan retired after 44 years of dedicated service.

Warm, approachable, and quick with a smile, Dan had a gift for making others feel welcome and at ease. He loved spending time with his friends and enjoyed playing Euchre, nurturing both friendly competition and camaraderie. He was also a tremendous gardener, tending his plants with patience and pride and joyfully sharing the harvest with loved ones. He enjoyed photography and bird-watching and loved spotting simple, everyday moments worth remembering.

Dan valued his family more than anything and made them feel loved each and every day. He is survived by his parents, Daniel and Lillian Lyon; his wife, Laurie; and his children, Howard Lyon (Heather), Kyle Lyon (Shannon), Brandon Ross (Crystal), and Toni Ross. He was a proud grandfather to Nolan, Lilia, and Oliver, the children of Howard and Heather, and to Isaac, Rowen, and Julian Lyon, the children of Kyle and Shannon.

He is also survived by his siblings: Mark Lyon (Donna), Russell Lyon (Joan), Joan Crutchley (Larry), Jill Lyon, and Renee Lyon, along with several aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his brother Jack Lyon, his grandparents, his aunt Christine Barron, and his uncle John Lyon.
