Daniel C. Burdell Sr., 82, of
437 Fairview Ave., passed away Wednesday(January 9, 2008) at St. James Hospital.
Born in Hornell January 29, 1925 the son of Luther and Viola (Trinkler) Burdell,he had resided in Hornell most of his life. He was a graduate of Salamanca High School and served in the U.S. Armyduring WWII. Daniel had been a Locomotive Engineer for the Erie, Erie-Lakawanna and Conrail retiringafter 45 years service. He was a member of The Hornell United Methodist Churchas well as a 60 year member of the Hornellsville Lodge # 44 F & AM. Dan wasalso a member of the Invanhoe Chapter # 160 Order of Eastern Star, The ( Damascus) Shrine ofRochester, The Corning Consistery, The Hornell American Legion and the Hornell ElksLodge.
He was predeceased by his two sisters, Frances Furguson andCarolyn Wiant.
He is survived by hiswife Jean (Nisbet) Burdell whom he married October 14, 1947, 2 sons, Gary(Debbie) Burdell of Hornell and Daniel (Cindy) Burdell Jr. of Hornell, 3daughters, Sharon (Patrick) Kelly of Rochester, Susan (Bill) Polmanteer ofHornell and Amy ( David) McMichael of Hornell, 9 grandchildren, Gary Burdell,Matthew Burdell, Catherine Burdell, Brian Burdell, Andrew Kelly, Sarah (Jim)Briggs, Jessica (Shawn) Murray, Emily McMichael and Timothy McMichael, 3great-grandchildren, Kylie Murray, Rylee Murray and Kaela Briggs.
The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4pm & 7-9 PM Saturday at the Bender - Brown &Powers Funeral Home,
354 CanisteoSt, Hornell where a Masonic Memorial Service willbe held at 3:30PM. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home with TerryKelly officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
