Dale L. "Flip" Wilson

Dale L. "Flip" Wilson, 79, formerly of Canisteo, passed away Saturday (March 9, 2019) in Georgia where he had resided for several years with his daughter and son-in-law.
Born in Canisteo, December 16, 1939, the son of Lloyd and Marion Burdick Wilson, he had resided in Canisteo most all his life prior to moving to Georgia. Dale attended Canisteo Central School, and following high school, enlisted in the US Army to serve during the Viet Nam War. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class.
Dale was a proud American, a private person, and a hard worker. He worked as a switchman for the Erie Lackawanna/Conrail Railroad, a maintenance groundsman for SUNY, served as a member and former Chief of the Canisteo Fire Department, and worked part time at Ells & Rods Sunoco Station in Canisteo. He was a member of the VFW, and was a former Commander at the Canisteo American Legion Post. Dale enjoyed fishing, softball, bowling and riding his motorcycle.
He was predeceased by his parents.
He is survived by his children; Deborah (Travis) Light, Deanne Mitchell and Dale Wilson; eight grandchildren; Jeanelle, Jarett, Jason, Lennon, Brendon, McKayla, Alivia and Owen; four great grandchildren; Jessie, Jackson, Julia and Ryan; his sister Nancy Vosburg; his aunt, Elnora Shaut and many nieces, nephews and other extended family,

Dale's life will be honored at a Memorial Service at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home 6 Spruce Street in Canisteo in mid summer, at a time to be announced. Burial with military honors will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.
Friends may make memorial contributions in Dale's memory to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta- Scottish Rite Hospital where his great granddaughter will be undergoing extensive surgeries.
