Clinton L. Palmiter, 90, formerlyof Alfred passed away Monday (November10, 2008) at Manor Hills in Wellsville.
Born in Alfred Station, June 17, 1918, the son of Earl and Bertha(Pierce) Palmiter, he had been a lifelong arearesident. Clintonwas a member of the Wellsville VFW and the Belmont American Legion. He was in the U.S. Army during WWII serving in England in the military police. He was employed by the Erie Railroad and retired from Alfred Universityafter 30 years of service. Clinton enjoyed talking about the war andwatching stock car racing and boxing. He was a part-time police officer for theAlfred Police Department and was on security detail for many football games. Hemowed lawns for many Alfred residents and was also a repairman for The Oaks Apartments in Alfred.
He was predeceased by his three brothers, Lynn, Lester andCharles Palmiter, one sister, Dorothy Ide.
He is survived by his wife Beatrice Stuck Palmiter, whom hemarried on April 24, 1948, threedaughters, Joyce (Dean) Plaisted of Palvilion, Ruth (Kent) McCoulloughof Wellsville and Jayne Palmiter of Alfred and sixgrandchildren, Clinton (Gretchen) Plaisted of OrlandoFL, Steven (Melissa) Nolan of Bolivar, Craig (Christina) Plaistedof Friendship, Christine (Jeff) Kessler of East Pembrooke,Thomas King, and Clara King of Alfred aswell as two great grandchildren.
The family will be present to receive friends on Thursdayfrom 5 PM until 7PM at the Bender - Brown &Powers Funeral Home,
354 CanisteoSt, Hornell where funeral services will followcalling hours at 7 PM. Burial will be in Alfred Rural Cemetery.
