Canisteo
Clifford C. Dennis, 91, formerly of Union St. went to be with the Lord on Monday (October 5, 2009) at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Born in Elmira, December 19, 1917, the son of George and Eva (Gurnsey) Dennis, had resided on Union Street in Canisteo for over 65 years. He had been employed at the former Scott's Dairy in Canisteo, and later, as superintendent of buildings and grounds for the Canisteo School System. Cliff will be remembered as a musician who could play all instruments. In his early life, he played the French Horn for the Salvation Army in Elmira, and later played for weddings, anniversary parties, and social events in the Hornell-Canisteo area. A plaque currently hangs in the Nashville Hall Of Fame, honoring his introduction of Country Music into the southern tier. He enjoyed gardening, and animals and had a great love of life, especially finding enjoyment in doing for others.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Andrus Campbell Dennis in 2001, son and daughter-in-law, Orville and Lavonne Campbell as well as three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by three daughters; Sharon (Louis) Nasca of Hornell, Evelyn (Norman) Little of Bath and Pamela (Gerald) Kijowski of Buena Vista, six grandchildren, Susan (Raymond) Gibson of Dallas TX, Louis Nasca of Canaseraga, Yvette O'Dell of Canisteo, Terresa (Brian) Andrews of Atlanta GA, Wendy Rinker of Bath and Christopher Nasca of Atlanta GA as well as sixteen grandchildren.

The family will be present to receive friends from 4-7 PM Friday at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo where funeral services will follow calling hours at 7PM with Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Canisteo.
