Charles F. Gaynor, 82, of 6497 Whitford Road, passed away Tuesday (January 12, 2010) at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bath.
Born in Mt. Jewett, PA, June 14, 1927, the son of Henry F. and Dorothy Fields Gaynor, he had resided in this area since 1948, and in Alfred Station since 1989. Charlie served his country as a member of the US Army from 1945-1947. He had been employed in construction work in the New York City area, and was involved in the construction of the Harriman Motel in Harriman, NY, was supervisor of the dining hall at Alfred University, and was a driver for the Allegany County ARC.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Doris Gaynor on January 6, 2010, three sons, Alfred, Theodore and Ernest Gaynor, two grandsons, Douglas and Jeffrey Brown, one great grandson, Noah Teribury, his sister, Jennine Fowler and his two brothers, Howard and Patrick Gaynor.
He is survived by 5 daughters, Mary (Douglas) Brown of Alfred Station, Beatrice (Berry) Snyder of Hornell, Linda Gaynor of Trumansburg, Ruth Baker of Texas and Marian (Ronald) Burdick of Bolivar, Three sons, Francis Gaynor of Buffalo, Elbert Gaynor of Texas and Charles Gaynor of Almond, 13 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren and two great -great- Grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends from 5-7PM Friday at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Military Honors will be accorded at 6:45 PM and his funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM, Lee Ryan officiating. Final interment will be in Alfred Rural Cemetery.
