Charles John Benway, 82, passed away peacefully at his home late Thursday (June 27, 2013) surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 16, 1931 in Fair Harven, Vermont, the son of Norris and Mildred (Chapman) Benway. Charles retired from Bethlehem Steel and was a licensed electrician. He patented a plating process for the printing press and obtained his private pilot's license in 1964. He was an avid reader and enjoyed classical music. Though Charles was a man with many passions, his faith and family were of utmost importance to him. Charles graduated from Liberty University Bible Study program in 1990 and taught several Adult Sunday School classes and Bible studies. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem. Charles walked in faith until the end, and his family takes great comfort knowing he is at peace with the Lord.
He was predeceased by his parents, and two sisters, Anna and Dana.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Muriel (Knapp) Benway; sons, Thomas (Deborah), Bruce (Cathie), daughter Janice Schultz (Richard), sons, Stephen (Judy) and Donald, and daughter-in-law Karen; brothers, Brian (Claire) of Worcester, MA and David (Brenda) of Vicksburg, MS, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchild
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Center Street in Bethlehem, PA. on Wednesday July 3rd at 11 AM.. Friends wishing to send a remembrance to the family or light a candle in Charles' memory may visit
