Catherine E. Norton, 81, of 6508 Hughes Road, passed away Thursday (October 29, 2009) at the Hornell Gardens.
Born in Canisteo, August 3, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Velma Prentice Cranmer, she had resided in Canisteo all her life. She was a graduate of Canisteo Central School, Class of 1947, and in her early life had been employed at the former Kitty Care Products in Canisteo, the former SKF Industries and the Charles Cutler Insurance Agency both in Hornell.
On June 16, 1951, she married Harold A. Norton who predeceased her in 2007. She was also predeceased by her parents, her sister, Carolyn Miller in 2008, and her brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Lola Norton.
Catherine had attended the Canisteo Wesleyan Church, the Hornell Bible Church and the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church for many years.
She is survived by her daughter. Cynthia Norton of Canisteo, her sister, Caroline Cranmer of Elmira, her half brother, Joseph Cranmer Jr. of North Carolina, one nephew, Paul (Barbara) Norton of Beaver Dams, 3 nieces; Betty JoAnn Norton of Hornell, Pamela (Dana Riker) Nicholson , and Deborah (Craig) Field both of Horseheads, 2 great nephews, Ryan Itjen of Horseheads, Ricky (Valerie) Norton of Oklahoma, 6 great nieces, Michelle (Leo) Micale of Mass., Yvette (David) Schaeffer of North Carolina, Yvonne Vorhees of Arizona, Suzette (Pete) Regini of Rhode Island, Paula (Earl) Leonard of Beaver Dams, Heather (Bruce) Merrill of Painted Post, several great great nieces & Nephews, 1 great great great niece, First cousins, Gerald (Helen) Freeland of Canisteo and Eleanor (Gerald) Williams of Oxford, many other cousins and friends.

The family will be present to receive friends from12-3pm Sunday, November 8, 2009, at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo where funeral services will be held following calling hours at 3:00 PM, Rev. Daniel Pickering , Rev. Edward Crandall and Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will be in Bennett's Creek Cemetery.
