Betty A. Semans-Ethraos
Betty A. Semans-Ethraos, 68, born in Avoca, and raised in Hornell, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 26, 2011 after battling Alzheimer's disease for over 9 years with determination and grace.
After graduating from Hornell High School in 1960, Betty married and moved to New Jersey, where she raised her family and owned and operated several restaurants during the course of her lifetime. She loved fishing, working with flowers, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her generosity, compassion and beautiful smile.
Predeceased by her parents Albert & Waneta Alderman Semans, and brother, Alton, she is survived by James Ethraos of New Jersey; 2 daughters: Waneta Marple and Maria (Ron) Blakeley, both of New Jersey; her grandchildren: Joshua (Gina) Tonne, Christina Marple, James Marple, Michael Tonne, Tara Marple and Mitchell Ethraos; her great-grandsons: Dominick, Noah and Xander; her sisters and brothers: Georgia (the late Arthur) Jones of Maine, Beatrice (the late Robert) Rahmlow of Canisteo, Martha (August) Panayoutou of New Jersey, Phyllis (Leo) Campbell of Dansville, Mary (Robert) Gross of Canisteo, Rev. Lawrence (Sue) Semans of Dundee, Steven (Diane) Semans of Tennessee, and David Semans of Maine; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.
Viewing will be held on Thursday morning from 10 am to 12 pm at the Wesleyan Methodist Church, Greenwood Street, Canisteo, followed by funeral service at 12 pm. Contributions in Betty's memory may be made to the Salvation Army, www.salvationarmyusa.org .
