67Maple Street, died Thursday (May 4, 2006) at her home after a long struggle withcancer. She was born July 30, 1926 in Lynbrook, Long Island, New York the daughter of Samuel J. and Viola Stein Grossman. She married RobertAllan Harder (deceased) in 1951. She hadlived in Hornell, New York from 1958. Dr. Harder was agraduate of East Rockaway High School, Adelphi College, and Women's Medical College ofPennsylvania. Dr. Harder enjoyed family practice in Hornell, Rochester, and Belfast, New York,retiring in 2000 after a 52 year career.She is survived by brother, Kenneth Grayson, of New York City,daughters, Susan Harder of Albany, New York, Barbara Becker (Gary) of BeverlyHills, MI., and Nancy Simpson (Eric) of Fairport, NY. Surviving sons are Richard Harder (Susan) of Elkton , Maryland,Thomas Harder ( Lorraine),of Toms River, New Jersey, and Jonathan Harder (Coralia) of Andover, MA.Surviving grandchildren are Alexandra and Nicholas Becker, Caitlin and LoganSimpson, Irene Kadel-Harder and Sebastian Harder. Betty Jane is remembered as abeloved mother, sister, and grandmother, a compassionate healer, true friend,dedicated and active musician, thoughtful writer, and a quiet and steadybeliever in her chosen faith. She was amember of the Alfred Village Band, the Hornell Area Wind Ensemble , the RedHatters Society, Creative Writers Of the Southern Tier, and the WilliamsburgConsort Band. Calling hours will beSaturday from 2-4 and 7-9 PMat the Robertson Funeral Home, new location, 354 Canisteo Street, Hornell,NY. A Memorial service willheld Sunday at 2 PM at theHornell United Presbyterian Church. Inlieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hornell United Presbyterian Churchor to a charity of the donors choice.
