Betty Johnston, 95, formerly of Grand Street, died of injuries sustained in a fall on February 10 in Scranton Pa. She was born June 27,1920 in Hornell, New York where she lived most of her life. Betty graduated from Hornell High School in June of 1939. During World War II she served as a secretary in the Bureau of Navy Personnel in Washington D.C. She returned to Hornell where her stated ambition was to serve her Lord by playing the piano and organ in church. She had actually started playing at South Side Baptist Church when she was 11. Her love and skill filled countless worship services throughout her teenage and adult years. She was a long time member at the old Hornell Gospel Center which is now the Hornell Bible Church. Her music, her laugh, and her tireless service to others will be profoundly missed.
